Carly Gibran has co-owned Gibran Studio
& Gallery with her husband, Tariq, since 2004. She Graduated from Stetson
University with a degree in Ceramics, and has actively created
and exhibited her own work since. In 2006, she was one of six Stetson
Alumni invited to exhibit as part of GundersonŐs 30 year retrospective
celebration. Carly has worked as an instructor
at the Florida Museum of Art (formally DeLand Museum of Art),
Harris House in New Smyrna, and for two years as an Art Teacher
for Volusia County Public Schools, where she was nominated for
the Futures First Year Teacher of the Year Award. In 2006, she traveled to Oregon,
Colorado, and Atlanta to attend specialized workshops in ceramics. This year, she has been awarded Florida State and Volusia
County visual art grants to fund a trip to England to study
with Sasha Wardell, who is known for her mastery of Porcelain
and Bone China.
Beginning
Wheel-Throwing: This
class is taught with the assumption that the students have no
prior wheel throwing experience, but is open to those who would
like to refresh or refine their skills. Projects include vases, coffee mugs,
bowls, and lidded jars.
Intermediate
Wheel-Throwing: To
sign up for this class, you should have a basic working knowledge
of clay, and experience on the potterŐs wheel.
Projects will include lidded dishes, pitchers, bowl &
mug sets, plates and platters.
Advanced/Open
Studio: This
class will contain little formal instruction, as students will
be expected to come with a project(s) in mind to make.
Instructor will be available for troubleshooting and
brainstorming. Students
should be fairly comfortable with the potterŐs wheel and/or
hand building.
Hand-Building: Students will be introduced to several hand-building
methods such as pinching, coiling, and slab construction. Projects include platters, lidded jars, serving bowls,
butter dishes, and vases.
Kids
& Clay 1: Students ages 8 – 11 Kids
& Clay 2: Students ages 12 – 15 We
will create different projects weekly, functional and non-functional
hand-building. Projects include lidded jars, animals,
ice cream bowls, and wind chimes. Both Kids ÔnŐ Clay classes will have similar projects,
with difficulty levels adjusted for age. (Note: Parents are welcome, but not required
to stay for class. If
parents elect to stay, it is requested that no other children
are brought along for safety reasons.)
